Current Openings - Percussion and Timpani
Announces vacancies for Principal Timpani (87 service guarantee)and Percussion, Seats 2 and 3 (74 service guarantee) Auditions to be held May 30, 31 and June 1, 2012 in Charleston, WV (5/30 and 31 timp; 5/31 and 6/1 perc) Employment for the 2012-2013 season to begin in fall 2012, or as soon after that date as the winning candidates’ schedules permit. The WVSO is a per-service orchestra. The current principal rate is $126.10; section rate is $97. Both rates are currently under negotiation for the 2012-13 season. If a vacant position is offered to a current member of the orchestra, the resulting vacancy may be offered to a runner-up. Deadline to apply: May 1, 2012

Auditions for these positions will take place according to the following schedule: Timpani May 30 and May 31, 2012 (10 am - 6 pm, appx) Percussion May 31 and June 1, 2012 (10 am -6 pm, appx)
We anticipate beginning the percussion rounds by mid-day of the 31st. These times may change, though, depending upon how many people confirm their auditions. The personnel manager will contact applicants by early May with a more exact time for auditions. In the International Musician ad, we anticipated 2 percussion vacancies; at this time, we only have one of those fully confirmed. It is our goal to hire at least one percussionist from these auditions; if the musician currently on a leave of absence formally confirms his resignation, we will have two positions to hire.
Location
Auditions will be held onstage at The Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences in downtown Charleston, West Virginia. You can easily reach us by car off I-64, I-79, or I-77 or by air through Yeager Airport (CRW). If you need additional directions, please contact personnel manager. To enter the building, please go to the “Walker Theater” entrance at the corner of Washington Street and Brooks Street. There are parking lots in the general area for your use. The closest is across Washington Street from the entrance and requires a $3/day payment. The GPS address for the Clay Center is 300 Leon Sullivan Way, Charleston, WV 25301.
Instruments Percussionists may bring whichever instruments they wish; however, all required instruments will be available onstage. Timpanists may NOT bring timpani. You will be required to use one of the sets onstage. There will be two, set up in German and American tuning layouts. Both sets of timpani will be Adams Philharmonic Lights with Evans hazy heads. Sizes 32, 29. 26, 23. A couple of different stools will be provided, though applicants may bring their own stool. You may obviously bring whatever sticks you like.
