Andrew and Amy Vaughan Student Symphonic Fellowship

Two Young Musicians Selected as Fellows

Jared Davis from Ona and David Buch from Beckley have been selected as the Student Symphonic Fellows in the Andrew and Amy Vaughan Fellowship Program through the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO).  Their selections are the result of auditions and interviews before a community panel on December 8, 2012.

Davis, a senior at Cabell Midland High School, plays tuba, double bass and electric bass in musical ensembles at his school, and also participates in Tri-State Youth Orchestra and in the Bethesda Methodist Church Worship Band.

Buch, a junior at Woodrow Wilson High School, is heavily involved in school academic clubs and competitions, plays tuba in the school band, and cello in the West Virginia Youth Symphony.

As part of their Student Symphonic activities, these students will

  • sit on stage alongside WVSO musicians in different sections of the orchestra during rehearsals
  • meet nationally and internationally renowned guest artists during the second half of the symphonic subscription series
  • conduct personal research about the music being performed by the WVSO and
  • meet with WVSO musicians and Maestro Cooper.

Since its inception in 2001 by Dr. Andrew and Amy Vaughan, this monitored and time-intensive training program for serious music students remains a unique program among orchestras throughout North America.
