Kanawha County Student String Program

The WVSO and Kanawha County Schools have offered a String Education Program since 1986. Instructors in the program, also orchestra musicians, teach in elementary, middle, and high schools throughout Kanawha and Boone counties. Over 300 students currently participate in the Kanawha County Program, which is concluded each year with an All-County String Festival.  Next year's festival will take place at the Clay Center on Tuesday, April 27, 2010.

The combined Capital-South Charleston Orchestra has been invited to play at the National String Teachers' Association meeting in Atlanta in March 2009.  Under the direction of Colleen Tan, this group was chosen as one of thirteen nationally for this honor.  They received an "excellent" rating.

Contact your local school for more information. If you are interested in starting a similar program in another county, contact the WVSO Education and Community Outreach Program at (304) 561-3531.
